This quad-core Windows 10 tablet costs less than $100

Still looking for last minute gifts this holiday season? If you’re looking to get one of your friends or family members a simple tablet, then this   new tablet coming out of CHUWI   should certainly be one of   the many   options on your radar. The new tablet is called the Vi8, and for its price, offers some good hardware. Among other budget Windows 10 tablets, it’s a good option. The specs are as follows: 8-inch IPS  1280×800 display Intel Cherry Trail X5 Z8300 quad-core CPU 2GB DDR3 RAM with 32GB storage, expansion via microSD 2MP front-facing and  rear camera Bluetooth 4.0/OTG/HDMI/WiFi/USB Type-C This definitely isn’t the greatest Windows 10 tablet out there. 32 GB of storage is incredibly small until you can expand with a MicroUSD, and 2GB of RAM is going to keep you restricted to the less resource intensive programs out there. Considering you can  get it right now at Geekbuying  for less than $100, however, there’s...

Following Patent Deal, Every Time Apple Sells An iPhone, Ericsson Gets A Bit Of Money

Telecommunications infrastructure company Ericsson just  announced  that it has reached an agreement with Apple over an ongoing patent dispute. For the next seven years, Apple will pay a fraction of its iPhone and iPad profit to Ericsson in royalties. Back in February, Ericsson filed suits in many different jurisdictions for patent infringement (the International Trade Commission, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, as well as courts in the U.K., Germany and the Netherlands). According to the Swedish company, Apple has been violating 41 patents over the past few years with its iPhone and iPad, in particular patents related to GSM, UMTS and LTE technologies. As expected, the two companies have reached an agreement and Ericsson is dropping all of its lawsuits. Today’s news isn’t particularly surprising as Ericsson holds more than 35,000 patents. Many of them are related to wireles...

How To Bring Back The Old Windows Photo Viewer As Your Default Image Viewer

When you upgraded to Windows 10, from either Windows 7 or 8.1, you must have realized that Microsoft did away with the old Windows Photo Viewer. In its place, you now get the Windows Photo App. While Windows Photo App might have its advantages like being able to edit pictures really quickly and share them online. For me, and many others, the old Windows Photo Viewer, is just straightforward, faster and we are used to it. The new Photo App takes some time getting used to, and it is just not the same as the old Windows Photo Viewer. If you upgraded from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10, you should find the Windows Photo Viewer when you right click a picture and go to the ‘Open With’ options. But if you performed a clean install of Windows 10, Microsoft has completely disabled the Windows Photo Viewer. But Geek Savanna has come across a simple hack at  Ten Forums  that will enable you to get back the Windows Photo Viewer. This hack is revealed by a guy called Edwin, wh...

Why Business Leaders Need To Take On The Education Revolution

Have you hired someone straight out of college in the last decade? If you have, it comes as no shock that today’s education system simply isn’t creating job-ready employees. Far from the differentiator it once was, the college diploma has become an expensive check box in the HR process. Let’s cut to the chase: You need experience to be relevant in today’s demanding job market. Period. Most graduates, regardless of their progression within higher education, are simply not presented with the opportunity to learn and exercise skills employers really need. According to a study by  McKinsey and Company , 72 percent of educational institutions believe recent graduates are ready for work. Here’s the kicker: only 42 percent of employers agree. The overwhelming majority of these employees will need to learn on their own to close the skills gap. So what can we, as business leaders, do to make sure the workforce of the future is getting what they need? It’s a matter of acknowledg...

Coffee Meets Bagel Adds Its Own Version Of Super Like With ‘Send A Woo’

In the past few months, Tinder has been working on a feature called Super Like, which let users tell one of their matches that the situation is more serious than simply swiping right. Today, Coffee Meets Bagel has added something similar in ‘Send A Woo’, letting CMB users express higher-than-usual interest in a potential match. Coffee Meets Bagel launched in 2013 with an interesting twist on online dating. Rather than swiping through endless matches as though you’re playing a mobile version of ‘Hot or Not,’ Coffee Meets Bagel promised its users one potential match a day. Using Facebook Connect, the app could sift through friends of friends to make sure these matches were somewhat relevant. If both users liked each other, the app would then connect them in a text conversation. Since then, the app has grown up a lot, ditching Twilio as a way to start text conversations and opting for in-app Instant Messaging. Oh, and Coffee Meets Bagel also raised $7.8 million...

CellSavers, An On-Demand Smartphone Repair Startup, Raises $3M

CellSavers  co-founder Itai Hirsch was not a fan of driving to a local repair shop after he’d broken many of his phones and tablets. So he decided to take a run at building CellSavers, an on-demand repair service that’s like an Uber for smartphone repairs. To do that, CellSavers has raised $3 million in seed funding from Sequoia Israel. CellSavers connects users with technicians that will come to them and repair a broken battery or a cracked screen. A cracked iPhone 6 screen repair, for example, costs $99. “We look at how Uber changed the way from hailing a taxi in the rain to pressing a few buttons from your mobile device, that’s how we look at the process,” Hirsch said. “It’s very limited interaction between the end-user and the technician. When you’re distressed and you break your phone it’s a low point in your day, and we try to create this positive experience. We see this as a lifeline, we want to make sure you aren’t without your device for more than 30 minutes.” The...

Indonesia Bans, Then Swiftly Unbans, Motorcycle Taxi On-Demand Services

A kerfuffle in Indonesia today illustrated the unpredictable nature of regulators and regulations when it comes to ride-sharing services in Southeast Asia, the region where smartphone ownership is rapidly growing among its collective population of 500 million plus. Less than a week after Jakarta’s governor Uber, GrabTaxi and other ride-sharing services a set of requirements in order to (finally) operate legally, ending a year of uncertainty around their status, the Indonesian government today banned (and then, less than 12 hours later, unbanned)  Go-Jek , a motorbike taxi on-demand service that claims 200,000 drivers in the city, and others in its space. Ojek (motorbike taxi) services Go-Jek, an up-and-coming startup backed by Sequoia that also offers food and package delivery, Uber-rival GrabTaxi’s GrabBike service, female-focused Lady-Jek and Blue-Jek were among those banned by Indonesia’s Ministry of Transport, which held ...
