Microsfot’s blazing through new hardware at this morning’s event, and following a quick stop-in with HoloLens, and a look at the new Microsoft Band, we’re ready for the meat of this sandwich: it’s Lumia time, and Microsoft’s getting us started with the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Let’s take a look at the smaller of the pair.
If you’ve been following the leaks, you’re no doubt pretty familiar with the hardware basics already, but today we pick up some real confirmation. the Lumia 950 gets a 5.2-inch OLED display with a pixel density of 564 ppi – for those of you crunching the numbers, that means a quad HD resolution. There’s 32GB storage, and you can easily move files on and off your phone with the help of USB type-C connectivity.
Sick of your phone getting hot? Microsoft’s hooked the Lumia 950 up with an advanced liquid cooling system, drawing heat away away from active components and helping to dissipate it as quickly as possible.
Like we’ve seen before, there’s a highly engineered camera around on the Lumia 950, where a triple-LED flash is joined by a big 20MP camera sensor. Microsoft’s armed the camera with a “fifth-gen” optical stabilization system. And for quick shooting, there’s a dedicated camera button – you can hit it and start capturing video instantly.
The Lumia 950 will sell for just about $550
