We’ve always appreciated Sony’s minimalist approach to Android customization, but the Xperia UI is still starting to feel a little stale. Thankfully, it looks like the company has some refreshed software in the works.
Starting this month Sony will be testing a “fresh take” on its Android UI. Unfortunately, the beta test is limited to Sweden for now. You’ll also need an Xperia Z3 smartphone (sorry, no Xperia Z3 Compacts allowed). The trial starts on July 27 and lasts through September 13, so we’ll probably get a look at Sony’s new software next week.
Sony also notes that you’ll want to back up your smartphone first, since the new software will delete everything saved to the device. Once the trial ends you’ll also be able to switch back to the company’s current UI. If you’re still interested and meet all these qualifications hit the source link below to sign up.
As for the rest of us, it’s unclear when Sony’s new UI will get a mainstream release. Rumor has it an Xperia Z5 could be launching later this year, so maybe the new phone will ship with some brand new software to match.
